did you open your Bibles please to 1st Corinthians chapter 15 some of what you were saying wait a minute you were there last week and Pastor Rod was there last week and now you're saying you're going to be there again this week yes we are and there's a variety of reasons that go into why I working in 1st Corinthians chapter 15 and we're going to be considering last week we saw the beginning of the chapter today we're going to look at the end chapter considering a specifically versus 50 through 58 and I'm encouraged it between Paso rod and his family and many of the young ones but then a pastor Rod is helping out you have an opportunity to be a blessing one of our other local churches is currently without a pass or Central Baptist Church on the other side of the mountain like is Saugus the process of looking for a pastor and so a few of us through the month of April are going over on Sunday morning early morning worship service and ministering to them and so have to ride is over there this morning I and I will be ministering and then I will be there during the morning worship service and then I think we'll be over there on the 21st as well and praying for them as they speak God's commands for those positions one of my favorite genres in literature is the mystery there's there's something in my mind at least about a playing along with the if trying to solve the mystery trying to Solve the Riddle before the main character does when I was when I was little it started with Encyclopedia Brown self-made child sleuth and then as I got older I graduated from Encyclopedia Brown to The Hardy Boys Mysteries and read most of the classic editions of those and now as an adult it's it's culminated in the the writings of Agatha Christie Hercule Poirot I know when they say it and then I'll start running Sir Arthur Conan Doyle that's easy for you to say Arthur Conan Doyle the writing of Sherlock Holmes how many you like mystery why is it that this type of literature hold so much appeal I think it's because we are people who want to know everything and we don't like it when there's something that we don't know when there's something that's hidden from us we have to know all the seat give me a conversation with a spouse or maybe with one of your children or maybe a friend who said you know I know something but I I really shouldn't say anything what does that usually do to your son curiosity well my first response to that is well if you didn't want to say anything why did you say something why have you planted this thought in my head now but we are people who want to know everything we can't stand it when there's something from us the Bible actually talks about there being secrets from God nothing that we keep from God but mysteries of God towards us things that were previously unknown but which has finally been brought to light of the 22 times. that word mystery is used Paul uses it 17 of those time to speak of the Mysteries of the Gospel things that were kid or that were hinted at in the Old Testament not completely revealed until they were brought to light by the arrival of the promised one by the arrival of Jesus what aspect of that Ministry in and maybe this will help you to understand why we're back in First Corinthians 15 again Prospect of that mystery is intimately tied to the event that we celebrated last week yes it's already been a week and some of you were probably already thinking way far ahead but let's reflect that what do we celebrate last week celebrate Easter which is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ I'm glad to know you're awake this morning yet even with such Clarity in scripture there still been some confusion within the church so what's the mystery of which I speak and what are its implications for us today we're going to we're going to look at these versus but we're not necessarily going to consider them in the order we're going to consider them phonetically start by looking at the mystery brought to light Pacific Lane versus 51 and 52 and then we'll go back to Bruce number 50 the mystery is described this way in verse 51 behold I show you a mystery supposed ready to bring something into the light that had been previously hinted at but not fully revealed we shall not all sleep but we shall all be changed in a moment twinkling of an eye at the last Trump for the trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be raised Incorruptible and we shall be changed so what is this mystery now that through the reserve Jesus Christ has been brought to life it actually has two parts to it number one is does this mystery as we shall not all die I love the way that Paul uses that terminology he says in verse 51 we shall not leave the beautiful description of death which she also use did you catch it in 1st Thessalonians chapter 4 as well and the point in using that imagery in the point in using the concept of sleep is that the one was trusted Christ for salvation does it mean if your death in the same way that the believer has no need to fear going to sleep each night but you might be asking what wait a minute Pastor he says we shall not all sleep or we shall not all die what do you do with Hebrews 9:27 which says and as it is appointed unto men wants to die but after this the judgment do we have a conflict that we found a discrepancy in scripture between what Paul right and what the right of the Hebrews right what the writer of Keepers is say that but for the supernatural intervention of God these bodies are destined to die I almost said they were designed to die but when God first created us he created us in absolute perfection untainted send destined not to die but because of the infiltration of sin because of the impact of sin not only on us internally in our relationship with God but also on the body ultimately then the body now is destined to die and the writer of Hebrews is saying if not for that Supernatural intervention of God these bodies are destined to die and everyone will then face God's judgement either personally where they will stand face-to-face with God Revelation chapter 20 verses 11 through 15 or whether vicariously through the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross if you've trusted Jesus Christ as your personal savior that judgment has already taken place and the Declaration because of the price that Jesus Paid that declaration from but now is not guilty you are now my child you are you enter into my presence so the emphasis in Hebrews 9:27 is not upon the physic Act of death so much as this idea of preparation to meet God preparation to face the Judgment of God whether personally or whether through the finished work of Jesus Christ pose as we shall not all die not everyone perhaps depending on the timing of when Jesus Christ comes back the event we call the Rapture perhaps not everyone in this room go by but he says there is a reality something that will we shall not all die the second part of the mystery is that we shall all be changed in a moment in the twinkling of an eye at the last Trump and the point is whether we are alive when the Rapture has occurred that event it's described in 1st Thessalonians chapter 4 that we read earlier or whether we die before the Rapture our bodies must be changed they must be how do you describe the transformation in verse 52 it will happen instantaneously in the moment in the twinkling of an eye how fast is that someone's right to try to do a mathematical computation on math to determine how fast twinkle of an eye is faster than anything you want I could ever comprehend and he said that's how quickly this event will take place it will happen. Only instantaneously but it will happen on Signal what's the signal the signal is Trump Apostle Paul reference that in 1st Thessalonians chapter 4 do you remember that Jesus Christ himself shall come with the Trump of God in the dead in Christ shall rise first so it will be I'm signal in other words it's at its appointed time when is Jesus Christ coming back I know big conversation taking place because of the events of tomorrow or the event of tomorrow and because of the earthquake on Friday that would be by the way the second I got one we've been through right we experienced an earthquake in the 5.6 range when we lived in Wyoming we were only about 15 minutes away from the epicenter that one I sent the whole valley into into Panic once again everybody's attention was caught and the big question was how did you feel that coming to get felt it okay okay some of you some of you felt it and you're like I don't want to be the only one let me see your hands if you felt it more and more of you here to felt it number one settling isn't it and you take that and some of the rather unusual or extreme amount of weather that we. Recently and then you couple that with a rare event like the eclipse tomorrow and you start to have these conversation all of these signs that Jesus Christ is coming back tomorrow baby we don't know you say what about what scripture says I'm going to come back to that in just a moment because as I read the scriptures that many are using to say well this is plenty of the fact that Jesus Christ is coming back tomorrow I think there's a little bit of a misunderstanding between two key events in Scripture that are spaced out about 77 years apart but yet we look at these things and it gets people to thinking is Jesus Christ coming back it gets us to thinking a little bit more about eternity and that's great but it's right on it's right on time God's never late and God's never early God is always right on time and when that signal sounds when that trumpet sounds instantaneously the twinkling of an eye strain cremation will occur and it not only will happen but it will happen in order in a moment the twinkling of an eye at the last Trump for the trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be raised Incorruptible and we shall all be changed pain I give order in the passage we read earlier and 4 Thessalonians 4 did you catch what he said for the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout with the voice of the Archangel in with the Trump of God and the dead in Christ that is those who are asleep those who knew Jesus Christ as personal Saviour but have died they're not going to miss out on the Rapture it says they're going to rise first then we were through alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air so should we ever be with the Lord I don't lose it as I got up got a little ahead of myself like in the thought but it's just been so much on people's minds and light up some current events and the reaction of some Believers to them this is really a friendly truth of it and finally truth the consider is what is referred to to connect Friday morning's earthquake in recent flooding and odd collections of whether actually come from passages in the four gospels where Jesus is talking to a Jewish audience about the second a Christ not the rapture you specifically preparing the children of Israel for an event that will take place at the end of the tribulation these are two different events that was Jesus often described in the gospel and that would Paul is describing in 1st Thessalonians chapter 4 and just riding here in 1st Corinthians chapter 15 two different events with two different areas of focus one spoken to the church as we have here in 1st Corinthians and a half as long as the other two a primarily Jewish audience and also at two different periods of time they are not the same they are not different pictures of the same event one is what we call the Rapture and the other is the second coming of Christ those events take place 7 years apart in the prophetic calendar but the mystery is it will happen and my mystery he sang It's been referred to previously it's been hinted at previously but now the truth is coming more fully like why is this big deal why is the mystery me that verse 50 we now go back to that and we couple that with verse 53 now this I say brother in that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God neither. corruption inheriting corruption 453 for this corruptible must put on incorruption and this Mortal must put on immortality the point is to fold number one bodies as they are currently constructed are not fit for eternity because the physical can inhabit the spiritual but also because these bodies are ravaged by 10 and they can't dwell who plays the perfection something's got to give either the perfect has to be imperfect become imperfect or the imperfect has to be transformed and made complete and fit for that which is pork and what's the mystery we shall not all die but we shall all be what's the word changed we shall all be changed or living bodies as they are currently constructed or fit fraternity and the body don't worry I'm not going to go too far into this but the body after it's begun to decay which it does when we die is unfit fraternity we were reminded of this all the way back in Genesis chapter 3 when the curse is implemented after the introduction of sin and God says as a part of that curse in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread till thou return unto the ground we're out of it was now taken for dust Thou Art and unto dust shalt thou return Have you ever heard of the Great ashes to ashes and dust to dust as a reference back to Genesis chapter 3 and verse number 19 and Paul reiterate this point in the corruptible that we must put on incorruption completeness totality and this Mortal that was just capable of dying must put on a form that is Immortal that is incapable of dying we shall not all sleep however some will some have I said it before as much as I appreciate the opportunity to minister to families in a Time Of Heartache and grief at the homegoing of a loved one and it can be a very painful moments as much of a privilege it is to be able to minister to do to those families quite honestly I'm tired of funerals can I get an amen to that I figured some of you were figured most of your tired of funeral tired of saying goodbye to my family and friends but the part of the curse of this world but one day this Curry n it's done it's finished it's over read about that in just a moment but that mystery is needed because these bodies of their dead or alive or unfit to do in well or two well internity he reinforces that and verses 54 through 57 that this mystery remember I told you the nature of a Biblical mystery is it was hinted that it was perhaps implied in the Old Testament but now it's becoming more clear that means I have to be able to go back to the Old Testament and find references to this why I don't have to go far because Paul actually quote some of these will get verses 54 through 57 so when this corruptible what's going on in corruption in this Mortal shall put on immortality which it must do then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written death is swallowed up in Victory oh death where is thy sting grave where is thy Victory The Sting of death is sin the strength of sin is the law but thanks be to God would give us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ as he so often does Paul takes us back to the old estimate reinforcing that this is not a new truth it is a mystery that was ended at earlier in scripture what is now coming to light through the resurrection of Jesus this is why we talk about this today this is Wyatt pie soul with what comes earlier in the chapter in the end in the process he teaches us some wonderful truth number one the final results of Salvation or secure everything that God promised he would do he will do I get an amen to that 454 death is swallowed up in Victory 20 quotes that he takes us back to Isaiah chapter 25 and verse number 8 the promise he will swallow up. in Victory and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces and the rebuke of his people show he take away from off all the Earth for the Lord have spoken it I love that last freeze for the law I have spoken it you know what that means it's done you can guarantee it you can take it to the bank you can believe it because as soon as God says it is finished it's over with and there's no doubting that there's no questioning it and there's nothing you or the world can do to stop it and no amount of care and no amount of persecution and no amount of uncertainty in our world today can keep God from fulfilling every Last Detail every last promise of his word the final result of salvation or secure death power is defeated and it's a strong enough concept that he he reinforces it in verses 55 56 and 57 again he appears to reference yet another Old Testament promise from Hosea chapter 13 and verse number 14 I will Ransom them from the power of the Grave I will redeem them from Death o death I will be by play I will be by destruction repentance should be kid for mine eyes but even in his Revelation to John the Apostle John God comes back to this promise of what is to come I don't want you to see this one turn the Revelation chapter 21 Revelation 21 there are elements of Hosea chapter 13 and 1st Corinthians chapter 15 that are reflected in first four verses the last words of chapter 20 war and whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life Book of Life with cats in the Lake of Fire what a sad note that'll break the heart of every single person in this room and I saw first one a new Heaven new Earth for the first Heaven and the first Earth were passed away and there was no more sea and I John saw the holy city New Jerusalem coming down from God out of Heaven prepared as a bride adorned for her husband the idea there is of a beautiful as you can ever imagine and Beyond what you could ever imagine and I heard a great voice out of Heaven thank behold the Tabernacle to Dwelling Place of God is with men and he will dwell with them and they shall be his people and God himself shall be with them and be their God and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes and there shall be no more death neither sorrow you're crying neither shall there be any more pain for the former things are passed away deaths power is defeated when Jesus rose he became the first of many remember we looked at birth 23 last week from 1st Corinthians 15 but every man in his own order Christ the first fruit that means he is the first of those that were to come afterwards they that are Christ's at his coming that's where you talkin about the followers of Christ that's where you talkin about the Believers gives Resurrection was different someone arguing say what season was the first one to rise the debt Jesus resurrection was with different because he didn't die again where's Lazarus you know I don't know if we'll even be interested in having conversations with typical characters when we get to heaven but I tell you what Lazarus is one of those I'd really love to have this kind of a conversation so Lazarus what was it like dude already been dead for four days and Christ brings you back to this earth and then you get to die again so tell me what you really think Lazarus at that point I think being being in the presence of God our creator our savior you know what all that matters is on here doesn't matter what it was like what the process was like think of jairus's daughter Jesus raise from the dead brought momentary joy to her family guess what did you die again but Jesus but Jesus Hebrews 7:25 says he ever live in it cuz you ever live it through once and for all that the promise that he made a return of life is to cure has the power to do it no you might wander so what you're giving me something to look forward to leave here feeling better about myself so what 458 back in 1st Corinthians 15 new Plies the mystery this way the full realization of your salvation is coming believe are you frustrated with what you see going on around you do you feel like saying with the Apostle John even come quickly Lord Jesus I know I do we need to understand the full realization of your salvation coming through 58 there for my beloved Brethren be steadfast unmovable always abounding in the for the Lord for as much as you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord's have you been tempted to wonder is it really going to happen Pierre warned us that that day was coming so I can Peter 3 three and four knowing this first that there shall come in the last days scoffers walking after their own lusts and say where the promise of attending Jesus is coming again for since the fathers fell asleep continue with they were from the beginning of the creation nothing's difference of what makes you think he's coming back today oh yeah uuuu followers of God you know the last time there was a there was an eclipse you told us a g coming back where you been where is it Pumas 8 reminds us for we know that the whole creation groans and travails and pain together until now family day. But ourselves also which had the first fruits of the spirit even we ourselves grown within ourselves waiting for the adoption to wit the Redemption of the body I find myself as I get older and the aches and pains increase in you know that twinge in my back comes more frequently or that pain in my neck seems to get worse and makes its appearance more frequently I will admit that it makes you say off I can't wait I can't wait until we'll all be changed but he says before you get to that point we challenge you to do two things number one labor and what God has called you to do labor what God has called you to do there for my beloved brethren always abounding in the work of the Lord Howe with conviction that's the idea behind the word steadfast that means you know what you believe and you know why you believe it someone like the Apostle Paul who faced so many challenges in life said that since I can Timothy 1 verse 12 for the which cause I also suffer these things never the less I'm not ashamed for I know whom I have believed and I'm persuaded that he is able to keep that which I've committed unto him against that day I've got a conviction deep down inside of my heart so I will not let go and it will motivate everything that I do and he says you can go out and you labor is Jesus Christ coming back tomorrow he could Jesus Christ to come back tonight what are you going to do between now and then just don't be sitting on the hilltops just looking up into the sky with your eclipse glasses on it is there a people around you there are family and friends who don't know Jesus Christ as their personal savior did you take advantage of this opportunity to share the hope of Christ with them before it is eternally too late you serve you do what God has called you to do with conviction and where they confidence and God that's the idea behind the word in a movable you know Paul was tempted at times and there were those that were around the Apostle Paul who wanted to protect him there were those who came and who prophesied by the spirit of God where he was about to go he was going to face Untold trial and difficulties and persecution and his friends said then don't go stay back don't go there if that's what it's going to mean there are safer place to serve there are more open field to go with the gospel what year was Paul's conviction with a confidence in God and now behold I go down in the spirit in Jerusalem not knowing the things that should befall me their stable except Holy Ghost Witnesses in every city saying the Fonz and affliction to buy me but none of these things move me I am a moveable either count on my wife deer in the myself I'm not going to make my decisions based on the preservation of my own wife so that I may finish my course with joy and the ministry which I received the Lord Jesus to testify the gospel of the grace of God God has given me a job and buy his power by his enablement do it until my dying breath until Jesus Christ comes to take me out that's my task labor what God has called you to do remaining yourself and I almost hesitate to say this but it's a biblical biblical principle remind yourself there's always a payoff for as much as you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord the commercial these days commercial commercial don't phase me but there was one that I caught it really resonated with me and I think it was for one of the I don't want to call it by name cuz I'm not going to give an advertisement for the company if it's not an energy drink but it's it's a hydrating drink not water and they talk about March Madness in the statement is that March Madness does it start in March start today you say well yeah we're in April the tournament still going up, he's talking about then it begins to show images practice and weight training and other physical exertion in April in May and June and July and August and September and October and then the beginning of games in November and December and so forth set the prepper I begin why do you put so much I look at how much work some of these athletes put in and I say what are they nuts why are they abusing themselves to that degree why are they working so hard because they got their eyes on the payoff those college kids for those for these four teams with two ladies teams in the two men's teams that are in the championship games today and tomorrow their vision of these two games started over a year ago and this is what they came for their coaches are telling them today and tomorrow by the way this is the payoff this is why I had you doing this this is why I had you working so hard getting people that they go to Canaan or even if you go to another school when you're involved in athletics or involved in practicing for an instrument or or something like that you might be tempted to give up and quit and say it's I can't do it you know what the use look at what it's getting me I'm not getting any better new teacher keeps reminding you your coach keeps reminding you the payoff is coming keep at it don't give up time is coming kind of, that's the promise here for as much as you know that your labor is not in vain with the in the Lord's Galatians 6 verses 7 through 9 be not deceived God is Not mocked for whatsoever a man soweth actually also reap for he that soweth to his flesh of the flesh reap corruption but he still with the spirits of the spirit reap life Everlasting Chao Chao Chao words of certainty and let us not be very in well-doing for in due season in the appropriate time we shall reap if we faint not the payoff is coming payoff is coming are you ready for this moment have you asked God to forgive you her sin and trust a Jesus to be your savior hope offered in the resurrection can never be yours without that simple step of it Christian if you yourself worn down in your service for Christ and wondered if it's really worth it maybe even wonder if there really is a payoff just as your salvation is through a simple Act of Faith so ongoing service is an act of trust that it will be worth it all when we live trials Wheels seem so small when we see Christ on your face also hear a sobre we're on the road till we see cry father thank you for the promise I pray that if there's someone who's not ready I would ask you would give them the courage to call out and simple faith God be merciful to me a sinner Lord may you give us a heartbeat in a passion and compassion for the people that are around us that don't know you Lord whether your return is today tomorrow or 50 years from now hope it's the labor from them for the master from the dawn to Setting Sun we pray in Jesus name amen
